The Stillson School of Irish Dance has successfully taught Irish dance throughout Maine for over thirty years. We aim to teach Irish dance as a tradition and an art form, fostering cultural appreciation and understanding of music and dance. Irish dance promotes cardiovascular health, flexibility, and strength while improving coordination and balance. Learning and mastering the steps helps children develop discipline, concentration, and perseverance. Most importantly, we want them to have fun! Our biggest hope is that Irish dance will be a space where children can build confidence, friendships, and a passion for our incredible art form.
Classes through Gorham Recreation Department will be taught by Mairead Stillson, a highly accomplished Irish dancer who has served as the dance captain of Celtic Fyre at Busch Gardens Williamsburg for eight years. Mairead also starred as the lead in Michael Flatley's renowned Lord of the Dance on Broadway. Her extensive professional experience brings unparalleled expertise and passion to the program, ensuring students receive quality instruction.
Dancers should wear comfortable, athletic clothing that allows for easy movement. Irish dance shoes are not required for beginners.
