Park gates are open 8am to 8pm
Canoe, kayak, and stand-up paddle board rentals are only available when a Park Steward is on duty. Please review the boat rental schedule prior to your visit to ensure rentals are open during your desired period.

To confirm availability during scheduled rental hours,
call the Shaw Park Boat Rental Hotline at 207-671-1926.
If you do not reach a staff member, they may be assisting other renters, performing park maintenance, or off duty. Calls will be returned as soon as possible.

 
Rental Fees
$25 for a 2-hour minimum
$15 for each additional hour
Rental fee includes watercraft, paddle, and life jacket.

Types of Watercrafts
  • 16 ft. Old Town Canoes (maximum 3 people per canoe)
  • Kayaks (1 person per kayak)
  • Stand-Up Paddleboards (1 person per board)
Paddling Direction
When launching from the dock, paddlers must travel upstream toward the train trestle.
Do not paddle downstream toward the Gambo Pedestrian Bridge, as this is an active hydro dam and a dangerous area.
 
Rental Rules & Agreement
  • Renters must be at least 18 years old.
  • A refundable $100 damage deposit is required prior to rental. The Park Steward will hold your credit card during the rental period. Cash, check, or credit card(coming in July 2026) accepted for rental fees. Exact change appreciated.
  • The renter must leave a driver’s license and credit card with the Park Steward on site until all equipment is returned.
  • The renter is responsible for the condition of all assigned equipment, including canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, life jackets, and paddles, and must return all equipment to the designated shed or rack.
  • Equipment must be used appropriately while on the River. No jumping from watercraft is allowed.
  • The renter understands they are responsible for any damage to equipment, including possible replacement as determined by Gorham Recreation.
  • Park Stewards are not responsible for lifting canoes, kayaks, or paddleboards.
  • Failure to comply may result in loss of rental privileges.
